Unity Candle
This ancient ceremony was symbolic of two clans, or families coming together as one, and would involve two smaller candles that were placed either side of a larger candle. Each of the smaller candles represented each family, and the couple would each take a taper and light their respective candle, before bringing them both together to light a larger candle, which would then symbolize the new family being formed.
For a Scottish twist, tartan ribbons could be added to the candle, or a personalised one with the date and names on it could be acquired, and could be lit on anniversaries. The candle could also be lit as a poignant memorial to absent friends.
